Building Codes are enacted for many reasons. First and foremost of course is safety. Our policy is to follow all building codes to the letter of the law. There are rare instances however, where local laws may be in conflict with state and/or federal codes, and this can present a problem for homeowners as well as the builders that they employ. If this happens to you (and no one ever expects it to, but it can), we will work with you and the municipality to resolve any outstanding issues. Other building codes regulate how your project relates to the environment, historic preservation, deed restrictions or neighborhood character. If you are renovating, adding on, or building a new home or structure, we strongly urge you to research whether what you want to do is practical, permissible, and affordable. Special requirements, zoning and mandates can often add thousands of dollars to a seemingly ordinary project. It's far better to learn this BEFORE you make a commitment to a project. We have a great deal of experience in working with architects, building inspectors, planning boards, and municipal officials, and understand that our job is not just to hammer nails and cut wood for you, but also to guide you through the entire process so that everyone is happy with the end results.
