Why we think GREEN! Our objective is to build energy-efficient, environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing homes that blend in with the character of the community and its surroundings. We have found through experience, that it is just as easy to build an environmentally friendly home as it is to build one using old technology that can waste energy and cost more to operate. With this in mind, we are enclosing information on some of the newer technologies or environmentally friendly methods that we try to incorporate into everything that we build, even when it’s not yet mandated by codes. FOUNDATIONS: We utilize a technologically advanced product called ICF for our foundations. ICF stands for Insulated Concrete Forms. The resulting foundations typically have less cracks, and insulate better against the elements because the insulation is an integral part of the form which does not get removed as is the case with wooden or metal forms. SEPTIC: No doubt you are aware that all geographical areas are not equal, nor is it practical (or financially feasible) to install septic lines everywhere. Sometimes, the soil is not porous enough, and drainage of effluent becomes an issue, so in addition to all conventional systems, we also offer an advanced system from Eljen with which there have been many successes. A brochure is included, and their web address is www.eljen.com. Another area where we offer products is in the repair of existing concrete septic systems. In many cases, a system will fail because the bacteria that eats effluent dies off, and causes a subsequent clog in the leech fields or lines. WATER HEATERS: We utilize water heaters from several manufacturers depending upon the desired energy source however, we always recommend using "on-demand" systems which have been proven to save up to 30% or more in energy costs over conventional systems. LAND PRESERVATION: Erosion is a problem in many areas, both mountainous and flat.
